LMD33
Excellent base line.
George Boand
Not in my book. The greatest Layla ever played was when Duane Allman played with Eric Clapton on Derek and the Dominos, What about the high riffs Duane played. Not the best ever.Duane plaed and composed the riffs. The greatest guitar player bar none. Quickwater.
Johnny Khomlately
+Nick Nickl It does have the outro with piano. Starts at 4:17 mark.
Susan Reed
+George Boand Totally agree , Derek and the Dominos but this is a second.........
The Witch-King of Angmar
Loved how the dude jumped at around 0:45
He was like, "oh shit- OH HELL YEAH!"
Susan Reed
+The Witch-King of Angmar Love Nathan East, he's always smiling and enjoying himself.
Douglas Schramm
+Steelasophical Steel Band The Bass-MASTER!!! He's the guy called first by the legends and came up with the bass-line for "Footloose." If anyone listens to that then you'll understand why he's first called. He's amazing!
Joseph Keller
Eric has this touch...
so smooth!!Love the piano...
Johnny Yum
It can't be greatest without Allman.

+MsFancy Pants thank U 4 your reply. I did do that. The ones that came up were not good audio at all. I'll look some more. But I just can't find any version that sounds as great as this. I think this version is perfection :) Just my personal opinion!
MsFancy Pants
+donna stitz No it isn't very good audio if you are referring to the one recorded in Tampa Fl...back in the 70 not why some asshole didn't get it on film would have been GREAT!!!!...oh and as far as I know that is the only live version of it with Duane.  I'm sure there are others but not with him ...THATS THE BUMMER and that it isn't on film.  :-(
Anita Huie
Thank you .isnt it amazing that our music is now being played by contestants on the voice .yep ours was the best .
Seth Tyrssen
Liked this one well enough, hated the slower version he insisted on doing forever after, and still like the studio version of this one, the best. Just a personal preference.
vazmo14850
+Seth Tyrssen the studio of course has bobby whitlock playing the second hal!

George Boand
Johnny Yum, you are so right. Without Duane Allman who created and played on Derek and The Dominos Boxed set circa 1971, is the best recording of Layla. The book in the boxed set states that Eric Clapton stated Duane created all the high riffs and plays the hell out of them. They were very good friends until Duane died. Listen also to Key to the Highway and you can hear Clapton yell on three occassions. it is rumored that they had another album planned with Duane but the cards played out different and Clapton slipped into his Heroin addiction for years. Quickwater., Duane's masterly guitar playing put Clapton in his place.
Jim Reasoner
Some people say that Jimmy Hendrix is the best player ever.  Many of us claim that Eric Clapton is the best!  They are both extremely talented artists and I for one don't want to compare apples to oranges.  Both have unique styles and I prefer Eric Clapton's style.  However I wound never give up an opportunity to go to the past and listen to the late/great Jimmy Hendrix.
donna stitz
+Jim Reasoner I agree......I totally GET the great amazing talent of Jimmy Hendrix. But It's apples & oranges. I prefer Eric Clapton as the greatest lead player of all times. Also I can't leave out George Harrison , Keith Richards, & of course , Chuck Berry !!!!!!!!
rarethen9
that piano coda melts my heart
laj043
Blackie stands in for Brownie! Nice job Blackie!
Miser Jones
I don't know. The musicianship is just too tight on this performance. Layla is a whirlwind of a song, and this performance just has no wind behind it.
fatmanpedaling
+Miser Jones  there are points where the sax is just tooo..... i dunno...cliche? trite? ....and there are other parts where the sax adds to it... in general, whenever i hear this song I wish the piano section went on....well pretty much to eternity...i get lost in it and transported...
Rem Dusad
Eric didn't even play the lead, some other dude did! this is not the "best" by any means.
MsFancy Pants
+Rem Dusad That some other dude was the legend Duane Allman the true master behind this great classic song.
Brian Briggs
Not even close to him and Duane
musicman987able
Clapton at his best. Or shall I say the 5th Beatle. Using his favorite Gibson Les Paul. Actual guitar was a 2-pickup.. He only used one pickup though.
George Boand
This tune misses Duane Allman nuff said. Where are the high riffs? Duane created all the riffs as stated in the old Box set of Derek and The Dominos. He is sorely missed and Clapton cannot make those riffs magically appear. Quickwater
valentin gilberto rodriguez cortes
me ¿pregunto que sentira pattie boyd? al escuchar esta cancion el igual que something que fueron escritas para ella , gran privilegio de mujer....
Eliot Drake
Also...the sax gives it a "wedding reception band" feel.
